How old do I have to be to volunteer?
No child under the age of 18 can volunteer at the Sonshine Soup Kitchen.
For safety reasons, children under the age of 12 are not allowed in the kitchen. This restriction is non-negotiable.
What will I be doing when I volunteer?
Prepping food, cooking food, cleaning up. Setting up serving tables and pop-up tent – weather permitting outside in our parking lot. Sometimes you may be asked to help do other chores as needed on the property (sweep outside, stock shelves, help in the office, clean and organize). Distributing meals and other items we have on hand to guests in their cars. Most of all you will be having fun!
What should I wear while volunteering? We do have a dress code, and we stand by it.
Comfortable clothing and shoes with rubber soles like sneakers are highly recommended.
No shoes with heels, or open toed shoes are allowed. No bare midriffs, low-cut necklines, shorts, pajama bottoms or yoga pants.
At what time should I arrive?
We begin setting up the dining room and preparing the meal at 3:00 pm. Volunteers are needed for three full hours when you sign up – from 3:00 until 6:00 pm – to complete the entire process.
How do I volunteer?
Just call the soup kitchen at (603) 437-2833 between 1 pm and 6 pm Monday through Friday and we will make every attempt to schedule you.
