FAQ’s About Volunteering

How old do I have to be to volunteer?

Volunteers must be at least 12 years old to serve in the soup kitchen, and 16 to operate the dishwasher, 18 years old to prepare meals at the stove.

What will I be doing when I volunteer?

A little bit of everything: setting tables, preparing the meal, serving dinner, and leaving the kitchen and dining room ready for its next use. Ocassionally, volunteers are used the office to help with newsletters or stock maintenance.

What should I wear while volunteering?

Older, comfortable, conservative clothing and good, sturdy shoes are highly recommended. Absolutley no open shoes! No bare midriffs, low-cut necklines, or short-shorts.

At what time should I arrive?

We begin setting up the dining room and preparing the meal at 3:00 pm. Volunteers are needed for three (3) full hours – between 3:00 and 6:00 pm – to complete the entire process.

Why can’t I volunteer on weekends?

The Soup Kitchen relies on the generosity of the First Baptist Church, and the use of their kitchen and dining facilities. The church needs their space on the weekends.

How do I volunteer?

Just call the soup kitchen at (603) 437-2833 between 1pm and 6 pm Monday through Friday and we will make every attempt to schedule you.
